The house is a substantial Listed Victorian Villa set in spacious grounds. The original offshoots to the rear of the house accommodated cramped kitchen and laundry areas, with no aspect to the garden. The clients wished to transform this part of the house, to create a contemporary kitchen area opening onto the garden and taking advantage of the south west light.
With the agreement of Historic Scotland, we demolished the offshoots. These were replaced with a simple but dramatic space, connecting with the existing house and opening onto terraces.
A polished granolithic floor contains underfloor heating. The same material was used for the outdoor terraces, creating a seamless floor from indoor to outdoor through the full width sliding glazed screens.
