Remodelling of Victorian Villa
Completed 2007
The rear of this house and the offshoot were remodelled to create a very light and spacious family kitchen area, opening onto the garden. The original maid’s room was incorporated into the new space, to create a cathedral-type ceiling with a full length roof-light over. The concept was simple and involved stripping away the construction layers added by previous generations.
The adjoining garage and utility room were rebuilt, using polished natural stone. The overall effect enhances what is a very handsome villa and creates a natural and interesting flow of spaces.
Other simple interventions were made, in addition to the main project, including the opening up of the principal under-stair area, to give more light to the hall and to connect the entrance spaces with the sunny garden to the rear. |
