Comprehensive remodel of detached Victorian villa
Completed 2009
This impressive, detached Victorian villa sits in a very large and open garden. Various additions have been made to the house over the years; an offshoot was formed at the rear, accommodating the maid's room and utilities, and an imposing double garage was constructed.
We retained the rear offshoot and refurbished this to create a garden room with mezzanine above. The installation of large, glazed doors and windows provides a connection with the garden and allows light to flood into the offshoot. The rooms to rear of the main house have been combined to create a spacious family living area and kitchen. The double garage was demolished.
The concept of the design was simple; we concentrated on a few key moves which would untangle the complexities of the spaces to the rear of the house, restore the connection between the building and the beautiful garden in which it sits and allow light to fill the once dark spaces. |
