Murrayfield, Edinburgh

New Build, Contemporary family house in beautiful garden.
Completed 2005

The site lies with in a conservation area and comprises sloping grounds facing towards and open southern outlook. The basis of the design is very much a progression of spaces which respond in plan and section to the natural levels and orientation of the site.

The design comprises a composition of solid and transparent elements. The north and east elevations of the house are substantially solid linear blocks which contain the cellular spaces of the house. These blocks form a backdrop to the main dramatic open plan living area. This area has fully glazed south and west elevations, and opens on to the private garden areas.

The design succeeds in creating a bright and spacious interior whilst still retaining privacy and intimacy appropriate to the urban setting.
